Timing Optimisation for Electronic Detonators

Prior to the formation of Blast Log, our team members both past and present were involved with cutting edge research into the use of electronic detonators at the University of Leeds in collaboration with EPC Groupe-UK (formally Exchem Explosives).

One of the key findings of the research was that blast vibrations could be controlled and minimised by optimising the delay (initiation) times of the electronic detonators using single hole signature analysis.

The increased control and improved confidence can allow blasting operations to be carried closer to sensitive structures without breaching planning consent vibration limits, thus allowing access to mineral reserves that would otherwise not be able to be extracted.

Blast Log has carried out electronic detonator timing optimisation for vibration control at a number of quarrying and mining operations to facilitate mineral extraction in some very difficult, vibration sensitive areas.
